Found on the banks of the Burnett River, Bundaberg city provides a lot of things to do for both tourists and its local people. Situated in Queensland and just 239 miles away from Brisbane, the city lies around 9.3 miles inland from the coastline. Mostly known as Bundy to the locals, the city is perhaps best known for exquisite beaches and oceanfront hotels and resorts.
This city has also been famous because of tourist spots like the Mon Repos Turtle Rookery and the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Head over to the beaches, free from stingers, or maybe take a trip to the Bundaberg Barrel. Of course, who can every forget about the Great Barrier Reef? If you love driving around, you can also grab your 4WD and explore the eight National Parks.
Bundy, as the locals may call it, is found in the central part of the Wide Bay-Burnett. The combination of its name is said to originate from the Kabi Original term for 'important man' and the German term for 'mountain.' The city is also known as the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, since it is located in the southern part of the reef. It is also quite near to two important islands: Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave.
Don't be surprised if you see flying foxes around the day fanning throughout the city - they are simply looking for food. They live in the northern part of the river Burnett, around the bridges of Don Talon and Burnett. They leave at dusk, and they search during the day.
Tourists also find the Mystery Craters quite interesting, as these holes are said to be unknowingly and mysteriously filled with water. But of course, nothing beats the city's reputation for its beaches. The golden beach of Moore Park spans 20 kilometers, offering lots of places to bathe and sunbathe. As always, there are also other beaches all throughout the city, such as the Kellys Beach which gets filled up during the summer months.
Classified to have subtropical climate, the city has gentle winters and hot summers. The yearly rainfall is around 1141 millimeters. Typically, its beaches are its quite exquisite tourist spots for both Australians and other foreigners. Because of such temperatures, it is always pleasurable to be beside the ocean or the river.
The city is serviced with an airport, with regular flights to the capital, Brisbane, and to the Lady Elliot Island. Besides these flights, people can always take buses to other parts of the country. Its airport is found next to the Central Queensland University, although its main campus can be found in the city of North Rockhampton, also in Queensland.
It is considered as sister cities with Settsu City in Japan, and the Nanning City in China. The sugar industry is also well-established in the city, with both milling and refining of sugar present. As such, their sugar has been of export quality. Other kinds of produce also include watermelons, legumes, zucchinis and tomatoes. Aside from such, there's also the local beverage producer, the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks.
