The Victorian Alps is an ideal destination for people that are looking to perform skiing activities. It is situated in the mountaineous region in between Melbourne and Wangaratta. Many Australian tourists come to Victorian Alps to ski very year. There are 10 ski resorts in the Victorian Alps. The mountainous region in the Victorian Alps are suitable for visitors to carry out all kinds of recreational activities such as hiking, rock climbing, fishing and cycling.
There are excellent hotels and resorts in the Victorian Alps. Many high quality resorts are located at Mount Hotham, and Falls Creek. Ski in and ski out rooms are available in several resorts. The length of the mountains is 3000 km. Before the Alps become a tourism spot, it used to be a place where the cattlemen stay. The cattlemen built many huts throughout the mountain to so that they can look after their cattle. Most of the huts can still be seen on the mountain. The huts now serve as a rest place for the skiers and hikers. The skiing season in the Victorian Alps is from June to October.
Thredbo Mt. Kosciuszko is a ski resorts nearby to Melbourne. Thredbo is open throughout the year. It offers the longest ski run in Australia. The ski run has a distance of 3 km. There are 17 ski lifts in Thredbo. Thredbo has a leading snowmaking machine. Before snowmaking was available on Thredbo, visitors can only perform skiing activities for 19 days. After snowmaking is installed on Thredbo, the visitors are now able to enjoy more than 3 months of snow riding to the village. The snowmaking had brought tremendous improvement to the slopes quality by providing more snow on places that have insufficient cover. The Thredbo Monster Bagjump is used for skiers to practice jumps. The Thredbo Monster Bagjump consists of a 20 x 20 meter filled cushion. The cover of the filled cushion s bomb proof and is extremely durable. At Thredbo, visitors can carry out many winter sports including cross country skiing, telemark skiing, and showshoeing.
Perisher Blue is situated in the capital of Australia, Sydney. Visitors have to pay for an entrance fee in order to drive into the Kosziuszko national park. You can go hiking on the beautiful snowy mountains in Perisher Blue. Cross country skiing trails are available. Perisher's cross country skiing trails has a length of 100 km. It has a large network of sheltered cross country skiing trails. The skiing trails are maintained regularly so that the tourists can have a peaceful skiing experience. Snowshoeing facility is located at Kosciuszko National Park. Snowshoeing is the best way to explore the landscape on the mountain. Perisher Blue offers a half day guided tour. The half day guided tour includes a gourmet lunch for the participants. In addition, Perisher resoft also offer Telemark skiing.
